Business Department

General Office Administration– Level I

DESCRIPTION:

This programme seeks to train persons to perform the duties of an Office Clerk in a Business environment. The Office Clerk will provide support for all types of organizations and businesses and their staff members.  


OUTCOMES:

The programme provides training generally in  clerical duties such as answering the telephone, printing and copying of documents, making and answering calls, providing support to the Human Resource department as well as general administrative duties required in an office environment.

Business Administration- Level I

DESCRIPTION:

The Level 1 certificate in Business and Administration seeks to train persons to perform clerical/administrative duties in the Business environment.  The course aims to provide students with indispensable knowledge about business and management and its role in modern organisations.  


OUTCOMES:

The programme provides training on business management, the basic concepts of business management and the roles of the individual in modern firms.  During this programme the students will develop new skills and improve their existing business managerial skills.

Business Administration- Level II

DESCRIPTION:

The Level 11 certificate in Business Administration course which is specifically designed for students who have deep interests in business management and want to explore the business world and its administration. The student will establish a career in Secretarial Science and as an Office Administrator with this skill and knowledge-based course.  


OUTCOMES:

At the completion of the course, students will be able to:

Develop a Foundational Understanding of Business

Enhance their Decision-Making Skills

Master Effective Communication

Gain Leadership and Teamwork Skills

Develop a strategic mindset and understanding the bigger picture of business operations. 

Management- Level II

DESCRIPTION:

This course aims at providing current techniques in structuring and leading organizations. It shows how to assess and develop a strong organization culture and the process of changing a culture  


OUTCOMES:

At the completion of the course the students should be able to:-

  1. Appreciate the safety practices in the world of work.
  2. Demonstrate the use of managerial tools in the everyday situation.
  3. Relate management concepts and knowledge to the ordinary work situations.
  4. Appreciate the need for managerial skills in the competitive and dynamic business world. 

Data Operations Level I

DESCRIPTION:

The CVQ Level 1 in Data Operations is for individuals whose Data Operations skills requires well-developed behavioral competencies but whose scope for independent decision making and for bringing about change is limited. Each unit of study is accompanied by a “hands on” completion project. Persons who attain this qualification will operate under supervision. They are likely to be in roles where they are required to:

  • perform work activities to conform to occupational health and safety standards
  • demonstrate the ability to work in the information technology sector
  • communicate effectively in the workplace
  • work individually and with others to achieve organizational goals
  • provide routine client support
  • operate a personal computer to enter data and access information
  • perform data entry operations 


OUTCOMES:

Persons working at Level 1 should be able to competently carry out simple, complex and routine work activities and to collaborate with others through groups and teams. The qualification covers competencies by providing services in Data Operations Level 1 such as being able to understand and carry out components of small business management, data operations, multimedia, web development, networking and information technology while working in a safe and hygienic manner. 


Relevant occupations include:

● Data Entry Clerk

● Office Attendant


The holders of this qualification will demonstrate a range of personal presentations and demonstrations of team work skills and literacy skills. To achieve this qualification all core units must be achieved. Any elective completed will be awarded unit statement of competency. The nominal training hours are a guide for planning the delivery of training programs. Please note that certification can be gained through formal training or on the job experience by scheduling assessments with the Linden Technical Institute (LIT) certified assessors.


Data Operations Level II

DESCRIPTION:

This course allows participants to develop the competencies for working in the Information Technology Industry. It covers the requisite skills and knowledge needed to understand and operate a personal computer, to enter data and to access information, perform basic operations using a Microsoft Word, Spread Sheet Application and create a document. This unit applies to individuals operating in the information and communication industry. Upon completion the participants will be awarded a Level2 Certificate in Data Operations.  They are likely to be in roles where they are required to:

  • maintain equipment and consumables
  • demonstrate the ability to Perform data entry operations
  • locate and evaluate online information
  • prepare multimedia for different platforms
  • develop macros and templates for clients using standard products
  • use advanced features of computer applications
  • operate a spreadsheet application (advanced)
  • operate a word processing application (advanced)
  • design organizational documents using computing packages
  • operate a database application (advanced)
  • incorporate digital photography into multimedia presentation 
  • install software applications
  • author a multimedia sequence
  • connect hardware peripherals
  • incorporate text into multimedia presentations
  • incorporate 2D graphics into multimedia presentation
  • customize packaged software for clients
  • use SQL to create database structures and manipulate data
  • write content for the World Wide Web
  • capture a digital image



OUTCOMES:

Persons working at Level 11 should be able to competently carry out complex and routine work activities and to collaborate with others through groups and teams. The qualification covers competencies by providing services in Data Operations Level 11 such as being able to understand and carry out components of small business management, data operations, multimedia, web development, networking and information technology while working in a safe and hygienic manner.

Diploma in Administrative Principles And Practices

DESCRIPTION:

This programme sets the foundation for students to become a proficient office managing. Students will be exposed to the structure and function of organizations and the various departments within organizations, the functions of an office, organizing travel and meetings, managing the files within the organization as well as accounting for the reporting and managing financial books.


OUTCOMES:

  • Have knowledge of the essentials standard writing,
  • Appreciate the essentials of communication process
  • Understand the essentials of ALL financial Statement and their treatment
  • Develop an awareness of the essentials of economics
  • Understand how to use financial mathematics in real life situation
  • Understand the essentials of human resources management
  • Develop a filing system for an office, handling mail and meetings

Diploma In Computer Science

DESCRIPTION:

Information Technology (IT) is the technology that supports activities involving the creation, storage, manipulation and communication of information.  Computer Science may be defined as the study of the design and use of computers, with a primary focus on computer programming. 

This two-year full-time course combines aspects of both Information Technology and Computer Science to prepare students for a future in the world of computers.


OUTCOMES:
